November Spice: Thanksgiving Detox Tea

I don't know about you guys but I ate A TON of food yesterday! And now I have all the leftovers to go through, which, to tell you the truth, I'm not quite ready for. I feel like I need to just not eat anything but fruits and veggies for the next week before I can even think about eating leftovers. But, lets be honest, week old thanksgiving leftovers sound absolutely disgusting. So, I don't know about you guys, but I guess I'm just going to have to eat the leftovers asap so I can get to my fruits and veggies diet soon. However, in the meantime, I've come up with a great tea that helps the body detox from all the stuff I ate yesterday. It's super healthy, easy to make, and doesn't taste as bad as it sounds. I'm making this every morning for the next few days as I finish off my Thanksgiving leftovers. If you want to see the recipe I'm using, just keep reading!

Ingredients:

1) Make ginger tea

I don't have ginger tea bags so I used a piece of ginger about two inches long. I put it through a garlic press first and let the juice and pieces drip in to the hot water. Then I took the ginger I put through the press and added it to the water to add some extra flavor. I let the ginger steep in the hot water for about 5 minutes before I strained the pieces out of the hot water. Ginger is great for helping in digestion. It's especially great when it comes to nausea and discomfort by calming the stomach. It's great for disinfecting the blood as well. For more benefits, check out this article of ginger benefits.

2) Add apple cider vinegar

This is a great ingredient to add in to your tea, especially a detox tea because that's exactly what it does. Apple cider vinegar is great for detoxing the liver after a night of celebrations (if your over 21). It's also great to promote a healthy heart and decrease blood pressure. But one of the best benefits of apple cider vinegar for after Thanksgiving is that it aids in weight loss because it makes you feel full, which I don't know about you, but that sounds perfect to me after having eaten a crap ton of amazing thanksgiving food. For more benefits here's a link to a great article about apple cider vinegar benefits. I personally like to add a little bit more of this ingredient than most people. It is strong so this can amount can be varied according to personal preferences.

3) Sprinkle in cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and ground turmeric

These are all really good to help speed up the metabolism which is perfect for quickly burning off all that food from Thanksgiving. Plus it gives you more energy to get through the day instead of feeling fat and lazy (like I definitely do today!). Cayenne pepper is also great in reducing hunger. For other benefits, here's an article. Cinnamon is great to help regulate blood sugar and helps with anti-aging. Here's the article by Times that contains more info. Turmeric is great for skin care, digestion and weight loss, and it helps to detoxify the body as well. For more benefits, here's a great article that lists the benefits.

4) Mix in lemon and honey

It's always healthy to give your body a small dose of lemon everyday because of all the natural vitamins and minerals it has. It's great for helping digestion and it adds in getting rid of the free-radicals (toxins from everyday living) we absorb in to our bodies. Plus it's great for keeping your skin nice and glowing! If you want more info on the benefits of lemons click this link. The honey just helps to add a natural sweetness to the drink since there is a little zing to this drink from the vinegar and lemon. The cayenne pepper also adds some spice too.

I added water to the tea to dilute it but you can do whatever you want. This is a great tea that is absolutely phenomenal for your health as well as for detoxifying the body after so a thanksgiving feast. I hope you guys enjoy! Let me know if you have any variations of this that I can try and I hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving day with family and friends!
