Freaky Friday- Scarecrow Edition

With the coming of fall and the changing of the season, people start to prepare for the holidays. Now, I don't know if Halloween is considered a holiday (I know when I was a kid, I considered it a holiday...not only for the candy...ok, only for the candy), but I still definitely consider it a part of the holiday season. With that being said, I'm super excited to announce that I will be posting every Friday leading up to Halloween in a series called "Freaky Friday". I will be showing you easy, last-minute costume ideas involving fun make-up that you can do for your Halloween activities. With that being said, let's jump in to the first one of the month!

For this week, I'll be showing you how to do the make-up for a Scarecrow. Now, there is no one right way to do this, but here's my take on the look. Hope you guys like it and I'd love to see your recreations in the comments below if you decide to dress like this for Halloween! To learn how to do this look, just keep reading.

1) Face make-up

The first thing you want to start with is your normal face make-up. For me, that's foundation, under-eye concealer, and powder. I also decided to lightly contour my face with bronzer and add a little bit of blush, but you don't need to do any of this if that's not your normal routine. I have bad skin so I wanted to do a little prep work before we got in to the look.

2) Eyes

For the eyes, I did a little shadow to give my eyes a little more definition (this is definitely optional but with my eye shape, I wanted to do this to get the best look I can). For that I blended a super light brown in my crease with a fluffy brush, I did a nude eyeshadow all over my lid, and finished with a slightly darker brown back in the crease. After that, I did eyeliner both on the upper and lower lash line. From there, I started drawing little triangles around the outer eye area and lower lash line. I started by doing winged eyeliner, than adding an extra winger on the upper lash line. Then I drew one below the winged eyeliner. From there I just started adding "wings" along the lower lash line. The good thing is, you really can use whatever you have in your makeup collection. I used cream eyeliner, but I would have liked to use liquid liner, since that might have been a little easier to manipulate. You could also you a really sharp eyeliner pencil, which I tried, but I feel the most successful would be liquid liner. Since, the cream has a tendency to "bleed" or smudge on me, I put black eyeshadow on top to make it stay better and give it extra dimension. With all of this, you can really use whatever you have with you. Once all the eyeliner and stuff was done, I popped on a pair of fake eyelashes. My eyelashes aren't that long and with all the black eyeliner, I needed the extra little "umph" to open up my eyes. I would recommend getting pretty "fluffy" ones if you can to balance out all the eyeliner on the bottom. If you don't need them, great! But I know it definitely helped me.

3) Nose

For the nose, you really want to follow your natural nose shape. First you want to mark half-way up the bridge of your nose. I used an eyeliner pencil to do all of this. Then you want to mark the tip of your nose. This will be the height of your drawing. Then you want to find the crease of your nostril on the side of your nose and mark half-way on both the left and right. From there, you can follow the natural curves of your nose and connect the dots. You want to keep in mind that this isn't supposed to be sharp angles but more smooth and circular when you are connecting the dots. It may take a few tries but I promise you it doesn't have to be perfect.

After that, you want to fill in what you drew with orange. I used eyeshadow but you can also use face paint if you have that instead. If you are using eyeshadow, make sure to use some sort of eyeshadow primer in the area first so that the color shows up nice and vibrant and stays all day (or night) long. After that, you want to draw all the little lines around the outside of the nose. Once again, eyeliner pencils will smudge on my face so I went over all eyeliner with black eyeshadow.

4) Cheeks

After you have the nose done, I went ahead and did the cheeks. For this, you want to find the apples of your cheeks. Since I used eyeshadow, I first put on an eyeshadow primer in circles on the apples of my cheeks to make sure the eyeshadow lasts. After the eyeshadow primer is applied, I drew a circle with the orange in the area of the eyeshadow primer, and then filled in the orange circle. Pretty easy. And once again, if it's not perfect, THAT'S OK! Trust me, mine was far from perfect. No one will notice because your face will look so awesome that no one will even look at the tiny mess ups. But if you are someone who needs it to look perfect, that's totally ok as well. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable, awesome, and confident.

5) Lips

This is where the look all comes together. For this you want to find the hollows of your cheeks, right below your cheek bone and mark about halfway from your ear to your mouth on the left and right side of your face. From there, you connect the outer edges of your lips to the marks in the hollows of your cheeks with black eyeliner. Once that line is drawn, add the little lines going perpendicular to the one you just drew. When it comes to the lips, you can really get creative because there are so many variations you can do. I decided to color my lips in with the black eyeliner pencil (not forgetting to powder it with black eyeshadow) and then pop a little of the orange eyeshadow on to the center of my lips to give it an ombre effect. What you could also do is color them in red and ombre out to black or even just keep it all black. Whatever represents you and your style the best. But one thing you don't want to forget is the lines on the top and bottom of your lips. I almost forgot that part when I was putting the look together and it definitely did not look complete without them.

6) Outfit

You're almost there! Now, you can wear whatever you have to make this outfit complete. I threw on the typical plaid flannel (which is by far my favorite flannel ever! but unfortunately the store doesn't carry it anymore), a black tank top, and some high-waisted jeans. From there, I topped it off with some cowboy boots from my college days in Texas (only four months ago), and a straw looking hat that I found. But if you don't have any of this, or only part of this, don't worry. Because you have the makeup done, you can really wear anything. If you want to throw on a cute black dress and a denim shirt, perfect! I guess the main ideas of the scarecrow look is to incorporate denim and a button down shirt in some way. But the good thing about doing a look around makeup is that it allows you to work with what you have in your closet instead of going out and buying all these pieces for a costume. But if you can do that, good for you. Halloween is a great time to get creative!

If there are any looks you want me to put together, I'd love to hear them down in the comments below. I hope this gets you excited for Halloween and I look forward to getting another look together for you guys!
